MAP or martial art program was initiated by my Head Instructor which incorporated fitness training with some taekwondo skill. I'm not really sure of the objective of this program but from my understanding it is to provide the students with physical training and some taekwondo skill in it.
This program kicked off early this year in January in one of the private institution in Klang Valley. Early of the program, the students baseline physical fitness is evaluated and hopefully with a sound training program, they will improve in their physical fitness. Other than fitness training, the students were also taught some basic taekwondo skill.
Today is the beginning of a new term and the students were tested on their skill before the term break and now they are preparing for the fitness evaluation. Personally, I think the timing for the evaluation is not right as after the holidays without continuous training, they will undergo the effect of detraining and re-training now will not provide an accurate indication of the effectiveness of the training program. There might be an improvement in their fitness evaluation result but we won't know for sure how effective is the program.
The primary students are more serious and dedicated in the training compare to the secondary students who showed no interest in the program. The primary students are more commited, whereas, the secondary students treat this as a waste of their time and energy. However, there are still many who are interested in the program.
Anyway, at the end of the year we will have a better picture on the effectiveness of this program and the impact that it has created to the students and the institution.
